The Global Maritime vertical is a highly specialized subsector sitting within Industrials, advising shipowners and operators, leasing companies, PE sponsors, maritime services, and a wide array of related marine and energy infrastructure businesses.
Position Overview
Jefferies’ Industrials Group is seeking a highly motivated Investment Banking Associate to join the Global Maritime team in New York. The Associate will play a central role in M&A execution, client coverage, strategic advisory, and capital markets transactions across a dynamic industry characterized by geopolitics and global trade flows, vessel economics, cyclical freight markets, and asset-heavy operating models. The ideal candidate has strong technical execution skills, an interest in maritime and energy markets, and the ability to manage complex cross‑border processes in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day execution of M&A and capital markets transactions, including building/reviewing financial models (DCF, comps, NAV analysis, vessel‑level economics) and preparing client materials (CIMs, management presentations, valuation and board materials).
- Oversee full due diligence across commercial, technical, environmental, and regulatory workstreams, coordinating with legal, tax, and third‑party advisors.
- Monitor and analyze maritime sector trends (freight markets, newbuild/orderbook, energy transition, global trade flows) and develop internal/client‑facing insights.
- Support senior bankers with client coverage, including public shipowners, private/family‑owned companies, maritime leasing platforms, PE/infrastructure investors, and maritime services/logistics businesses.
- Participate in client meetings and contribute to strategic recommendations and pitch development.
- Manage and mentor analysts, coordinate with global teams on cross‑border deals, and support recruiting and training within the Industrials group.
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in investment banking; prior Associate or experienced Analyst.
- Strong modeling and analytical skills; attention to detail and ability to handle complex asset-heavy businesses.
- Experience executing M&A or capital markets transactions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with significant autonomy.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and client-service mindset.
Preferred
- Prior exposure to shipping, transportation, logistics, or broader Industrials sectors.
- Knowledge of maritime fundamentals (freight markets, vessel types, charter structures, emissions regulations).
- Experience with cross‑border or multi-jurisdictional transactions.
- Demonstrated interest in maritime, global trade and energy/infrastructure-related transactions.
